Kivik – hub for research and development in cultural heritage

Pleasure in a knowledge center and a meeting place at Kivik that combines cultural heritage, research and local collaboration in Österlen.

About the project

The project aims to investigate the possibilities of creating a knowledge center and a meeting place at Kivik, to strengthen the cultural heritage tourism of Österlen. Through the collaboration between the Kivik Museum, the Kiviksgraven, Asmiroca cultural heritage experiences and other actors, they want to develop research, cultural heritage experiences and meetings. The focus is on creating a resource that is ecologically, economically, socially and culturally sustainable.

The preliminary study will map the conditions and draw lessons from successful examples in other regions, especially Denmark. The result is a report that lays the foundation for an integrated meeting place that promotes local and international collaboration, exchange of knowledge and innovation in cultural heritage and sustainability. The goal is to strengthen Kivik and Österlen as sustainable visitor destinations with global relevance.

Support for the project has been sought from the Agricultural Fund for Rural Development via Leader Östra Skåne, whose board has prioritized the case.

Pending the Swedish National Board of Agriculture's formal decisions, the project has been started at its own risk.
